You Want Free Fabric? Yeah, I Thought So.

Here's the deal, my friends: I am going to enter a Spoonflower contest-thingie, but I need your help. I always PLAN on entering these things, but suddenly the deadline is up and I haven't scanned anything, and I feel all failure-y and lazy, but NOT NEXT WEEK! Because next week's theme is NAUTICAL. You see where I'm going with this? BUT, I am terribly indecisive, and need your help picking out which boats color I should submit... Have an opinion? Well, even if you don't you should make one up and pretend you care, becaue I will be drawing a winner from everyone who makes a suggestion, and that lucky duck (uhm, what? Did I type that, for real?) will get a FQ of the color they chose! It's free stuff, people! And you don't even have to write a limerick this time! You are getting off EASY, people!
Also, I should mention that my internet ears have been burning a little bit. First, the super-inspiring Ara Jane mentioned me on her blog, You know what I love? Look at the post where she re-folds all her fabric. It's beautiful, and makes me tired just THINKING about doing something like that. Many's the time I have wished that there was a little more OCD in my blood, and a little less rather-watch-tv. That's a disorder, right? RWTV? Anyway, what was I talking about? Oh, yeah, so, Ara Jane is the bomb (Yeah, I'm bringing that back), and THEN I was also mentioned on the Ric Rac Roundup website! I am really lucky to be a part of the RRR this year, there are so many AWESOME folks involved in it! A lot of the crafters I have always admired in the KC area are involved, so if you live around here you should totally show up for it. THERE WILL BE ORGANIC SNOWCONES, PEOPLE. There will be PLUSH LOGS and CUPCAKE BATH FIZZIES and HAMMERPRESS and AMAZING JEWELRY. I would go even if I wasn't schlepping. It's being put on by the girls at Bon Bon Atelier, who are seriously cool, and have also started a ning group for their Summer of Craft, which I am participating in, if I ever manage to pull my sewing machine out of the moving-rubble. You should sign up too, because who doesn't want to be a joiner? AND, back to the original thought train, which was "people on the internets who love me, or pretend to because they are polite", the fabulous Jennifer, who i know from KCEtsy and from her being the nicest person in the world, mentioned me on her blog Trellis today! Jennifer is an arborist, and a painter, and a sewer, and an everything else-er, and did I ever tell you the story about her sending me the best little things ever? No? Well, I WILL, but not tonight, because my neck hurts and I am having a RWTV attack. But she is the nicest human being, and I will tell the story some day, soonish, while it is still floating in my swiss cheese brain.
Ok, so I have smashed a lot of stuff into this post, but do you remember the point of it all? FREE FABRIC! WHICH COLOR!? TELL, NOW!

EDIT: Ok, so, I had forgotten that I turned content moderation on, because I keep getting spammed by asian sexy-lady bots. And for some reason, I hadn't set the thing up to notify me when I needed to moderate, so I was all Eyeored this morning when I thought no one had commented, and no one wanted my fabric. Me = dummy. And comment moderation is off again, so beware of asian sexy-lady bots. AND ALSO, I TOTALLY forgot that Jacquie had mentioned me in her post about the amazing tree quilt she is making which happens to use my feather fabric! Jacquie is obviously the bees knees, and I have been totally spoiled to get to spend a lot of time with her. This is why I usually don't post after 4:00, because my brain turns to evening-soup. Thanks, Jacquie!

I would buy it in any of those colors, they look so yummy. My favorite is the yellow, but I think the black/white would get the most votes. :)

The blue. And I would totally vote for you.

Meghan said...

I love this fabric--please post a reminder for us to vote for you. I'm torn between the blue and the black & white, but I'm leaning toward the black & white. Good luck!

My favorite is the white on gray, followed by the teal. But I think the white on gray really shows the design without a lot of overpowering color.

teaginny said...

I love the black and white because it looks like pen and ink artwork! My second and third choices, because who can you pick just one, would be the navy and the aqua - very ocean-y.

Allison Fouse said...

I think because it's a nautical theme, it would be a no brainer to go with the blue. However, the black and white is pretty classic, and may be the type of "different" needed to stand out from the crowd. That's just my two cents.

Gray is so it right now that I think you should submit the gray with white! Good luck! I'll go over and vote next week!

Yellow. Orange? Yorange. Third-from-the-bottom, in that picture, is what I'm saying. I want to make that color into ice cream and eat it, PLUS I feel like it and the dark blue are the strongest colors on their own, and the dark blue is a little too on-the-nose nautical.

in LOVE with the yellow and gray.

Jolene said...

My first choice would be the white with black. Second choice, grey and white, and third choice, dark blue and white. If I win do I get one of each?! Seriously, I love your blog and your fabric, and I'll definitely vote for your design on Spoonflower.

Jen said...

Oh my goodness, those boats are fantastic!!! I'm not much help here, my pick would be between the grey, yellow, and blue. Good luck!

i'm partial to the seafoam green myself (it's the color of my kitchenaid mixer). good luck with the contest!

Black and white.
Definitely the black and white.

I like the gray or turquoise! Colors of! the sea

Laura said...

Hmm, blue is always a good color for a nautical theme, but maybe too obvious. I do really love the first one, the black and white one.

Blue blue blue! I L O V E that blue and want to snuggle in it!

beth said...

Of course we want free fabric - I love nautical! So, should you go "nautical" colored or go for a suprise? My favorite is the suprise, so I vote for the teal - which is just a little suprise b/c it's still blue!

Anonymous said...

Given the nautical theme, I say go with the blue!

Anne at Film and Thread said...

I love the gray because that is my favorite neutral, but I would enter the blue because the design really stands out and that blue has such a nautical feel and would go with a wide array of other nautical fabrics.

Ingrid said...

I really like that aqua color..the one on the bottom of the stack in the picture. Good luck in the contest!

Fulvia said...

How can I possibly be the first one here, PEOPLE (don't think you used that word enough in your post--ha!). I vote for the gray print.

amelia said...

My faves are the black and white and the blue and white. Classic Nautical, fo realz...

elle said...

I really, really like the very light aqua. It speaks sea glass, early seaside morning, slowly opening eyelids to see what the bright summer sunshine is serving up for a holiday!

Esch House Quilts said...

I vote for the grey. I like that: OCD vs RWTV!

Unknown said...

Hi Jane
Just happened to come across your lovely blog on a sewing search. My choice for color is the peach. Its fresh and says summer.

I would go BLUE. It is so classic, and other the obvious that blue might represent - the ocean, it kind of reminds me of blueprints with the sketchy looking sailboats. Your fabric is beautiful! I hope you win the contest!

Anonymous said...

I think either the blue or the black on white - they seem more nautical to me than the other colors. The black and white is my favorite.

Ashley said...

you should most definitely enter - your prints are fab!! my vote would be for the blue - I love the color, and I love how clearly you can see the boats. my fingers are crossed for you! :)

Stephanie said...

I like blue (because if the theme is nautical, then blue of course), white, and yellow.

Also, was it you who mentioned Green Wing on your blog many months ago? Because if so, I'm past due a thank you. I LOVE that show! So thank you!

Unknown said...

haha. i love your writing.
submit the turquoise. because that's the best.color.ever!!

Susan C. said...

I think the gray is gorgeous. :)

chp said...

It's a tie for me between the white with black boats and the blue with white boats...but if I had to choose just one...I'd go with the white. Simple and elegant.

jgoode said...

My girly side votes for the peach!

melissa said...

This is a very difficult decision but I think I will say seafoam. Though I also love the gray.

Lisa Martin said...

RED!!!! I think RED....

blue!

Only ONE color? This is too hard! OK, here are my thoughts as I think them, for what it's worth:
You can't go with the blue or turquoise, because it's too obvious for a nautical theme. You can't go with the brights, because that's beachy, and, thus, obvious. Go with the unexpected -- the grey? or the black and white? Those colors enhance the drawing effect. The grey is stormy - I like storms. But the black and white is classic. THIS IS TOO HARD. I hope my comments help more than hurt.

Unknown said...

I'm particularly fond of the grey, so I vote grey!

Anonymous said...

Hmmm I'm not sure if the blue may be a little, erm, 'obvious'. It's so hard, they're all so yummy....maybe the aqua? Good luck :)

arajane said...

well, obviously i love the blue seeing as how i have some in my possession. there is just something about that particular shade of blue that is so just right. (but that yellow is also particularly wonderful, too!)

Susana said...

I love and covet them all (especially the aqua), but I vote for the black and white to submit. It's just striking.

oh, they're all so pretty bunched together like that, but if i had to pick just one to stand alone, it'd be the blue. very classic and nautical! good luck!

Lisa said...

The gray is my favorite, but I think maybe enter the teal or the black and white. Helpful, no?

Meg said...

I think the seafoam is nautical AND different AND gorgeous. The triple whammy is sure to win!!

beautifulshell said...

the dark teal. omg, it's so beautiful! how i would love some....

NiCoLe said...

I think that you should enter the blue fabric. Boats should be in water...

Katie Jean said...

Well Lauren, those are all too gorgeous to choose just one color, but I supposed if you held a gun to my head (you know, by giving away fabric and all), I'd have to go with the black & white. And as soon as that contest comes out, you got my vote!

Infodetective said...

Tough choice. I would say the black and white. My second choice the dark blue.

ksrunt said...

It's a toss up between the grey and the lighter blue. I like those two best though the others aren't far behind.

Terra said...

I love the quality of the lines on the black and white, but the blue is so purty!

Jenny @ Anything Pretty said...

Oh it is so difficult to pick a favorite...but if I had to I would have to go with the blue. (on a sidenote...ever have a word verification that is hilarious? I would type what mine says right now but I might get censored:))

carrie said...

I love that blue. love it.

Holly said...

I'm gonna have to go with the navy blue for the nautical theme. I hope you win!

Corinnea said...

I think the black on white and next the white on blue but I love them all.

Unknown said...

I love the grey. I think grey is kind of trendy right now...or at least it is for me!

RosaMaría said...

Oh!! those boats are amazing! I'm my pick would be between the grey, aqua and blue. gracias!

Micmacker said...

I love all the colors, but blue and sailboats - classic!

Nancy said...

I LOVE the yellow, but think the blue would get more votes...nautical theme and all that...

Patchwork Architect said...

I like the grey, but I would recommend submitting the blue...very nautical and pretty.

Holly said...

Love this fabric! I especially like the grey and blue....but I think that I would have to vote "blue" to go with the nautical theme.

Anonymous said...

I'm really into gray right now, that's my vote. I do love them all and have a project in mind for the gray and yellow.

Rosebud said...

As a New England sailor the dark blue speaks to me, but the grey is the color of our stormy skies. A great collection of colors, I'd have to vote black and white I am anxious to see where it takes me.

Tricia said...

Blue...definitely! I love it

patty a. said...

I like the black and white and the gray and white, but the blue and white also rocks!

Truth and Beauty said...

the dark turquoise blue, babe. obviously you think so too, because you pointed the tip of the scissors to it. subliminal hint. XoXoX Lysa

sfer said...

I would go for the grey background/white lines... I think grey and other more neutral colors are really fashionable right now :-)

Thanks for the chance to win... and I'll be off to Spoonflower to vote for your design! :-)

My favorite is the gray just because I love it!

Megan said...

Love the boats. The white with the black boats are my favorite.

noelle said...

I love the aqua! Its nautical but the blue/white is a given so I'd mix it up a little bit.

smarti said...

The white with the black boats for sure. The look is so striking.

Melissa said...

So hard to choose! Since the theme is nautical I'd go with the Navy color. It's classic.

Becky said...

The black and white one is scrumdiddlyumptious :)

Rachel said...

Blue and white for sure! :)

Lizzy said...

MMMMM. They're all gorgeous, but if you have to pick just one, I'd go with the blue. Is that navy?

Jen Petersen said...

I love all of the colors, but I think the white background with black boats sticks out as most nautical to me - maybe because the boats are so much more in your face - in a good way. That's my vote.

anniem said...

I'm thinkin' the grey. It's universal usage and the colour of sea mists. It's the colour of Jamie Fraser's face when he has to go to sea which means he needs comfort and care...mmmm, so where was I going with this???? Yeah, well, grey is my vote.

karen said...

I think the aqua. The blue is too cliche for the theme-- but really, if I were to purchase one, I'd get that salmon color (at least that's what it looks like on my screen!)

webmailaddress2 said...

I like the one with the white background. It's just so simple and classic. 2nd choice would be the blue background. Good luck!

Adele said...

the black and white one for sure! they are all gorgeous though - luck luck

Janice said...

The blue seems the obvious choice to win the contest, but I really love the teal. I love them all, actually! Good luck!

Unknown said...

So, I'm really far behind on reading blogs and just saw this. I think if only 1 fabric is to be entered, I'd do the white with black boats. If you can do a few together, I'd do the white, blue, teal, & grey. Good luck! I hope you win.

Angie from Dear Spring Green said...

The black and white. And please remind us when it's up so we can vote for you! I wish I had less of that watching tv thing too. Now that there is nothing on, maybe that will help me be more creative. And do something.

SmitoniusAndSonata said...

I love it in that deep 1950s deep turquoise blue , though I think whichever you go for will win!

The blue is beautiful. Even though I'm probably too late! :)
