The New Big Thing.

Christmas presents will have to wait a little longer, because I just can't wait to show you what I've been working on. This is the first in a series of several quilts I am making... to sell. Terrifying, right? But so far, I have no idea how to go about it. I've been debating over going etsy, but the prices would have to be much higher than everything else I have in the shop, and I'm not sure if that would really fly. I've also been toying with the idea of going to a couple local stores and asking them about selling there, but that's even more frightening. What do you folks think? Anyone with experience in this sort of thing? More photos on flickr.

I have no idea where the best place would be to sell your quilts...I have been kicking that idea around myself. your quilts are gorgeous!

Quilts are a little bit harder to sell because of the mark-up due to the time they take (DONT short change your work, its amazing!!) Though you could test the waters with Etsy if you dont sell it you are out only $0.20. Is there a quilting group in your area maybe you could tap into their knowledge, or maybe sell at a quilt show. Normally people there are going to buy a quilt and wont have a "sticker shock"

Let me know how it goes, once my quilting skills improve I would be interested in selling my creations too.

(starting to save my pennies here to get one of your quilts one day!)

I say go for Etsy and see how it goes. I think a lot of people do searches for "quilts" or "purses" on Etsy when they're looking...and it wouldn't be a big deal that they're a lot more than anything else in your shop. If I went to Walmart...and got a toothbrush and a Dyson it would be the same thing...less expensive verses expensive at one place...LOL. Look at me...sounding all silly.
ANyway...the quilting on that quilt makes it POP. Its just beautiful. Im off to FlickR to see what else you have on there...heheee.

Good Luck!

Keepsake Quilting used to sell quilts on consignment, but I think you have to buy into their membership program, the Gold Club. Etsy, as a first shot, is less expensive. But if you're curious, here's the KQ website addy: http://www.keepsakequilting.com/productdetail/9501.htm .

Your quilts are stunning. And I have no advice to offer about selling. I think Etsy is a good place to start.
Good Luck!

Your quilt is simply gorgeous! I think Etsy is a perfect place for it. I bet it sells. I'm a Kansas City girl too. I'll check back often to see more of your work. Good Luck!

Know this is an older post, but I just re-stumbled upon it. I LOVE your quilting on this. It was burned into my memory, but I'd forgotten where I'd seen it. So glad to find it again. Very cool.
