I Equals Bad Blogger.

Seriously, I have been in a crafting rut, and I am blaming it all on crayon rolls. So, I finally finished one of the two I was planning on doing for Christmas, and I have already lot the will to live, because I HATE doing parallel lines of topstitching, and I STINK at it. So, yadda yadda, here is the picture of the thing I have been grumbling about, and I don't want to talk about it anymore.
However, when I cut the strips for these things, I thought that I would love making them SO MUCH that I cut TWO piles of rainbow fabrics. One pile has been sewn together, but you, my lucky friend, can have the other, if you want. And these are looong stips two, cut from one selvedge to the other. All you have to do is leave me a comment that says what your most ill-fated gift-craft experience was. I will cackle at these, and then draw a winner who will inherit from me the hell that is crayon rolls. Sound good? No? I haven't made it seem appealing? Mneh.
In other news, I continue to take way too many pictures of my cat, and post them indiscriminately on my blog. Here you are, Gratuitous Baxter Photographs, known from now on as GBP's.(I should mention, so no one suspects me of favoritism, that Rufus is very cute to. But he is much harder to photograph, and also doesn't pose as much, and I am lazy.)

Hello!! I do love the crayon rolls!! My most ill fated craft experience would be my first quilt!! I "Sewed it" together with stitch witchery!! I still have the rug burns from the iron... and my sister still has the quilt falling apart!!

I have since learned!!

Take care!!

your roll looks great to me, honestly. but isn't it funny how some projects just jive and others... don't. i think knitting a sweater has been my crafting disaster. i've made one, and i'd never have bought it off of the rack. i have tried to make another 3 times this fall, and it hasn't worked yet. i might try again after the holiday knitting gets finished up. might.

I love Baxter photos! So you can keep posting those :) (Of course I constantly post photos of my 2 kitties so I can't say much there :)

I don't think I have a gift craft disaster, although there have been a fair amount of craft disasters :) I think knitting has been my craft disaster. Kind of general but I want to like knitting & everytime I knit something like a scarf I don't really like it after I am finished...

I've never tried a crayon roll, though I would very much like to, so count me in. I don't know if I have any disasters though -- not because I'm a sewing goddess, but because I just don't make that many gifts. There was the baby bib that the father called a "skirt." And I just tried to make a bunch of fabric toy balls, which all came out weirdly shaped and won't roll straight, but they're going out anyway!

Oh, I forgot about basting my daughter's quilt to the carpet. That was a disaster indeed. :)

You crack me up. I'd love your lovely leftovers! And the crayon roll looks great- no matter how painful! Okay, my gift craft disaster- not a sewing one, but one for a "handmade only Christmas" with my family. For two of my sisters (I have four) I put together funky and old containers with pebbles and soils, and bagged up all sorts of lovely bulbs to force. Of course, I gave no directions on how to do this, and I didn't do the refrigeration thing for weeks to get them ready. Did anything bloom...um...no. Bad sister! Bad present! A bunch of dirt, rocks, and flower lumps. Oh dear.

I would love your leftovers as well! The crayon roll is wicked cute, though!

And, my most ill fated attempt would have to be my Christmas list. Don't know what I was thinking!

Your post is funny, and I can totally relate. I often get excited about a project, only to find that I'd never want to make more than one of said item! My latest disaster is a makeup/toiletries bag which I blogged about today (www.filminthefridge.com). The zipper doesn't work correctly and it ended up being a strange shape. I doubt I'll be making another one!

I love the crayon roll though, and it's a project I've been wanting to try. I'd love your pre-cut fabrics!

Love your blog!

It turned out so cute though! I don't piece the back of my crayon rolls, I just do three solid pieces.

My biggest disaster was the first hat I knit. I cast on wrong and it didn't stretch to go over the wearer's head. It looked like a deflated cake or something.

Don't enter me in the contest, I already won one of yours!

this is on my list to make for my nephew...now i'm not so sure! maybe if i win, i won't have to cut which is my nemesis. i hate cutting. i guess my most ill fated craft experience is when i stepped on a pin in my sewing room, sat down screaming, yanked it out...blood spurting all over the beige carpet and the quilt i was working on...which i pulled onto the floor and used to stop the bleeding. the story goes on with the discovery of spit to remove blood from carpet. needless to say the quilt was history.

ZOMG! Where to start! My partner lost the beanie that he dearly loved, so I tried to knit a replacement. It was too small, and looked like a navy blue condom stretched over his head. I apologised, and started again with some lumpy beige yarn. This hat looked like a poisonous, ill-formed mushroom on his head. I don't knit him hats anymore. Then there was the wraparound dress I made for me, which splits up the side and shows my undies if I kneel down while wearing it...

Well, my biggest gift related "disaster" is a denim rag quilt I'm trying to make for my husband... I've been working on it for the past 4 years (before we were even married) and I just can't get it done *L* The worst part is I wrapped up a partially assembled "block" and gave it to him and said I'd finish it someday!

My real problem is one you decribed. I think to myself, "this will be great to make lots of and give away." So I start cutting and sewing and then...they never get finished! Ugh! Why can't I just make ONE! So my disaster is that my "gifts" never get "given"!

Wanted to mention, after reading this post, my son and I were wrapping a present for his friend. I just got him some art supplies. Hawley rips open the crayon box to pour them into the bag. oops. so I made him a crayon roll after being inspired by your post! It wasn't nearly as exciting as yours, I only used felt. but I personalized it by sewing the little boys name on the outside with big funky felt letters! Then made a colored pencil roll up for his other friend! So thanks!

Hi, no wonder you have a headache, its not a crayon roll - but a crochet hook roll and I reckon with a bit more material added on for those hooks larger than crayons...it will all be good.
