I Am Still Alive.

Just lazy/busy. I have been working after school for my previous employer, doing some digital archiving work, and it makes me tired of staring at photos on a computer by the time I get home. Sorry. Here are some pictures I took last week in our yard.

The Weekend

A few weekends ago I made these doughnuts, Giada-style, from refrigerated pizza dough. They were cute, and we each ate about two before we were overcome with the unadulterated sugar and fried-ness of it all and had to stop. So, not healthy or long-lasting, but certainly photogenic!
A few of you asked about the solids I use in my quilts, and I have to tell you that usually it is a mix, but that I don't -gasp- use Kona cottons, really, ever. I know it's sacrilege, but I never find the colors I want at the stores, and the hand of the fabric always seems a little rough to me. However, I do always use 100% cottons. Some of my favorites are the Wendover solids they sell at Hancock's, because they look and feel beautiful and come in a great range of naturalish colors. My favorite solids, though, are RJR's Cotton Supreme Solids, which you can find here.
Tomorrow the Husband and I are headed to Iowa City, for our late anniversary 3 day weekend and a ManMan show. Anyone have any recommendations for good places to stay/eat/shop in that general vicinity?

The Best Laid Plans

Sometimes a quilt just doesn't end up being what you thought it would, but you like it anyway. This little quilt was commissioned by a friend for her new nephew, Ozzy.

I'm A Winner.

Seriously, I can't believe my luck. Have you seen the bags that Katie Henry makes? I can't believe I won one of them, and believe me, it is by far the nicest purse I have ever owned. Which, honestly, is kind of sad for me to say, because, well, most of the purses I carry I made, but Katie really makes beautiful and detailed work. Also, it smells good, and was really nicely packaged, making the whole thing even more awesome. Check out her shop here. Thanks so much, again, Katie!

The Animal Family

Baxter loves you all so much. He purrs as he sits on the computer chair's armrest, while I read him your comments. Yes, he thinks, I AM super cute! But Rufus gets jealous, and so I have to compensate....
Oh, and those fabulous fabrics, including the plaidish wavy one? Most are from the "Come Quilt with Me" line that did Pat Yamin for Marcus Brothers. I got it on super sale from fabric.com at like 3.25 a yard or some ridiculousness, but I think they are out now. Sorry.

By the way, did I mention that Baxter plays fetch? He's much better that Rufus at it, too. But don't tell Rufus I said that, he's a little embarrassed about it.

Something Fallish This Way Comes

Thanks for all the love on the Big Stair quilt, guys. I would like to say I've been so quiet because I've been sooo busy producing endless amounts of sewn-goodness, but that would be a lie. I've just been doing other VITALLY important things, like sitting around and making cupcakes and watching bad tv on DVR. DVR is amazing, no? Anyway, for my mother here is Baxter, and for the rest of you, here is what I'm working on now.

Big Stairs FInished

I now have so many variations on Rice Krispie Treats to make that I don't know if I will ever get another thing crafted, but luckily I managed to finish this last week. I LIKE zigzags, I've decided, and that's all there is to it.
